Legends of Mythology is a retro inspired, genre-bending action adventure game, with a pseudo-3D world shown only in 2D. The game incorporates elements from a variety of different genres such as platformers, metroidvania, RPG and rogue-like. The fantasy world is heavily inspired by real world history, mythology, legends and folklore from all over the world.

"There is an evil curse over the lands and many beings are running rampant under it's control. Most of the great warriors have already given their lives trying to save the world. Meanwhile, you have been ignorant of the threat, taking care of your family. Will you pick up a weapon and become the savior? Will you join the forces of evil? Or somewhere in between? And can you keep your family safe amidst the turmoil?"

Fight mythological beings, find items, secrets, interact with various NPCs and explore an open-ended world, with various endings depending on the choices and performance in your gameplay. The game is made with consideration for speedrunning as well as more casual play, featuring an in-game timer and making perma-death tied to the Hardcore mode.

Character progression and difficulty are directly tied to the items you find in the world. The more you explore, the more likely you are to find better equipment. There is no such thing as experience points or levels and level requirements. You can use what you find and the equipment gives you different stats.

The metroidvania concept of keys and locks to open up an open-ended world applies, though the keys are not always movement or combat related. All "one-time obtainable" key items are optional and you can complete the game without any of them, but you need them to get the better endings.

Key Features

Replicating the feel of games from another era - 8-bit color depth (256 colors), upscaled low resolution (640x360) pixel art to modern resolutions, lo-fi sound and music, bringing the nostalgia factor.

Item-based action-RPG - Equipping better items gives you better stats and combat ability, eliminating all grievances about level requirements or allocated stats. There are ten different damage types to explore with this system.

High player agency - Simple character creation and equipping items makes you able to change your characters appearances and builds to your preferences. Interact with, ignore or kill every NPC. A large majority of the game is technically optional for a simple completion. It's up to you how you want to play.

Branching narrative elements - Some of your actions will affect what happens during your playthrough and ultimately shape the ending.

3D world shown only in 2D - Everything is displayed in 2D, but branching paths, ‘up’ or ‘down’, can make you go 90 degrees in another direction. You use a compass to navigate the world.

No tutorials or objective markers - This game trusts you to find your own way. NPCs can help guide you, but ultimately you are the one who decides what to do and where to go.

A game for a mature audience - Despite being pixel art, it depicts a cruel dystopian world in downfall and will include gore and more mature themes, not recommended for children.

Disclaimer: The game is currently in development. And it is in what I call; the "open tech-demo" stage. This means I am still working on the fundamentals and there isn't much gameplay yet. Once I get to the next stage of development, which will be termed "pre-alpha", more actual gameplay will start appearing as I start expanding and building the world.
