How do I go about preparing the patch data to feed into the tessellation stage?

For example: If I've got a Utah teapot, the data set contains some Bezier curve data and vertex information.If I want to prepare it inside of a 3d editing software like 3dsmax, how can I do so? I just cannot export the patch information from it.
